From Taylor Swift to Miku Expo, ticket prices are rising rapidly.

If you are a concert go-er, you’ve probably seen the absurd prices on concert tickets. From major artists, like Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny, to less popular artists like Madison Beer or Conan Gray, ticket prices are getting higher.

Swift sold her face value tickets for the Eras Tour at $49, and people resold them for $1,000-8,000. And for her older shows, her tickets were as low as $25 for the Fearless tour.

A big part of the problem is resellers selling tickets for crazy prices to get big profit. But also, the regular prices are incredibly high. But why is this? This is mostly because of greed and to pay for the venues and location for the concert, since buying venues and hotels is getting more expensive because of general inflation.

In the past, $50 was expensive for concert tickets, and now the expectation is $100 dollars for each ticket; Yet, back then, the cost of living was lower as well.

Regular inflation has been getting higher along with these concert prices. Cost of living spaces and healthcare are getting higher by the minute, yet ticket prices are rising higher and quicker than general inflation.

Artists have spoken out about and against the prices, since they want their fans to get affordable tickets.

Even in the past, concert ticket inflation has been a problem. Nirvana kept their prices near $20 and were irritated by people selling tickets near $50-75; saying in an interview, “People charge that much?” Nevertheless, they did not face any backlash for saying and disagreeing with the high prices for concerts.

Adela Orozco from 6th-grade Literary Arts agrees with Cobain. “WOAH, the prices are SO HIGH, the highest one I have seen has been like, $5,000 for like, one ticket,” she said.

Alice Stewert, 7th grade Literary Arts, agrees with Orozco. “I wanted to go to Miku Expo in April, but the tickets sold out immediately AND they were super expensive.”

General prices for tickets have been getting higher along with concert prices, and concert pricing is most likely affecting other ticket prices.

Paloma Bastos adds onto Stewert’s and Orozco’s opinions by saying, “I've seen some crazy prices, I saw for a Katseye concert it was like over $1000 for not even good seats.”

“I think the people who get the most out of this high pricing are the companies selling the tickets, because the artists are NOT getting all that money,” Alice Stewert adds. And Stewart is correct. Artists typically make $8 from selling their tickets for $100 after paying all of the expenses.

Most of the money does not go into the artist's hands. So who is actually getting ripped off? Prism.fm says that bigger venues typically cost between $50,000-$150,000 per night.

It does cost a lot to tour, especially at big venues, which are really expensive. So, artists and concert ticket buyers are both having issues with the money they are paying.

Do the prices seem too absurd now, or are we both paying too much?
