The following article is a special May investigation by the OSA Shallot staff, aiming to bring you the very best of the campus' fake news.

A group of five pop-stars announced they will be headed to the moon for an exclusive concert in March 2026. This comes after Katy Perry recently had a three-minute trip to space with an all-woman crew aboard a Blue Origin rocket. Despite Perry’s trip not being well received, the pop-stars saw the opportunity as, “a way for us in power to push for more women in the space industry.”

The full crew will consist of five pop-stars, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Rodrigo. As for how they will get to the moon, they will use the same company that Perry used, Blue Origin.

Blue Origin is a private spaceflight company founded by Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos. In a video about Blue Origin, Bezos says, “It’s this generation’s job to build a road to space, so that future generations can unleash their creativity.” This message is presented throughout their website, down to their slogan “For the benefit of Earth.” This, the pop-stars claim, is the whole ethos for the trip, to show the importance of going to space and the impact it will have on our future.

“This is going to be a really groundbreaking trip. I think this is just the beginning of space tourism and a future where going to space is a normal occurrence,” said Swift in an Instagram post. She commented on the innovation and opportunities this trip will open up.

Along with the trip to the moon, the stars will perform an exclusive concert on the moon. The concert, called STARS IN THE STARS will feature the biggest hits by all five pop-stars. Pop fans are very excited for the trip, considering this the first show that Ariana Grande has done since 2019.

“As a fan of all five popstars, I’m so excited to see the show. I’m planning to skip school when the live stream is. I don’t really see the point in it being on the moon, since it takes a lot to even get there. I don’t really care as long as the concert is good,” said one fan in response to Blue Origin’s X post about the concert.

Even though the concert is in 2026, they released the setlist to create buzz for the trip. One song is “Levitating” by Dua Lipa. Fans speculate that Lipa will levitate during the performance of the song.

It seems that the singers chose songs that have to do with space, with songs being as literal as “NASA” by Ariana Grande, and “Space” by Sabrina Carpenter. Others are not as obvious, such as “the grudge” by Olivia Rodrigo. She performed the song on her GUTS World Tour from a moon suspended from the ceiling in the arena. Fans joked that she was, “the first woman on the moon,” which could become a reality with this trip.

Even with this excitement, there is the question of how they will even put on the show. There have been leaks of the supposed holographic space suits with embedded microphones. Others think that they will lean into a more retro look, with this photo on Grande’s Instagram.

In order to pay for all the equipment needed, Spotify sponsored all five singers. There will be special features on Spotify during the event that will be announced soon. Fans speculate this will be very similar to the special Eras Tour custom playlists for Swifties.

To promote this concert, the pop-stars created a joint merch collaboration to promote the trip. The items feature all five pop-stars faces along with the name of the concert, STARS IN THE STARS. Items range from the usual T-shirts and hoodies to special astronaut Dip-N-Dot ice cream with their faces on it.

The clothing merchandise was announced to be produced by fast-fashion brand, Shein. The brand is known for its many controversies. Such as questionable manufacturing practices, stealing designs from small businesses, and toxic chemicals in their clothing.

Fans are very angry about the move. It is known that all of these pop-stars create high quality merch. The decision feels like a demotion from their previous collections. One anonymous fan said, “This whole thing is a sham to get us to think that they’re cool. Making yet another cheap merch line that will just get thrown away is so wasteful. Don’t get me started on the whole space launch thing. That emits so much CO2.”

In response to this backlash, the pop-stars called the trip, “a call for women in the space industry,” in a joint post on an account specifically for the mission.  Many of their fans are young, impressionable girls. They think the trip will inspire their fans to do what they want, no matter the boundaries.

“I know so many of my fans are very young. I want them to know that they can do anything they want,” said Lipa in an interview.

None of the pop-stars commented on partnering with Shein. They just simply changed manufacturers to a private one, and launched a separate website for the merch. Some are calling the lack of response, “irresponsible,” and “immature.”

The public doesn’t only have bad reactions. Some are excited that Rodrigo, Carpenter, and Swift are all going on the trip. In past years, the three have been said to have some beef.

On Rodrigo’s SOUR album, she sings, “You’re probably with that blonde girl.” Fans speculated that the blonde girl mentioned was Carpenter. While these rumors have been disproven as the line was added to rhyme better, fans still believed in the drama. Around the same time, Swift’s team allegedly sued Rodrigo for sampling “Cruel Summer” on  the bridge of “deja vu.”

Fans now believe that the feuds are resolved because they’re going on this space mission together. “I’m so excited that all the drama is resolved. I’m a fan of all three. I’m glad I don’t have to feel like I’m betraying one or the other by listening to one,” said Fleur Hamptons, a big pop music fan.

Even with the good reception, the whole trip has landed all five singers into hot water. Instead of the feminist PR they may have been hoping for, they received backlash due to insensitivity about the environment. Keeping all that in mind, whether or not they go through with the trip or back out will determine their future reputations.
