Mr.Mansplain. He grabs the side of my friends board in his fists — grabs her board — readying himself to push her into a wave, though we are complete strangers, though she tells him no repetitively, though she had just paddled back from the very same catch as him, though (if it had stopped to ask he would have learned) she is a surfing instructor herself. The Santa Cruz sun is never enough to distract me from the anger in my chest; we came here to relax. I remember the smug disdain, hooded wetsuit, and chapped sunscreen he wore incredibly clearly, but that aside he was all too familiar because there is a him at every beach -- a Mr.Mansplain.
