"Christmas is the day we celebrate the Lord's birthday" --Trevor Walton
I wanted to interview Mr. Secrease because he is a amazing person with an amazing personality. He is very nice and his job is to protect every student at OSA. I wanted to talk with him about his holiday plans because I see him basically everyday, and he always asks how my day’s going. A special person like Mr Secrease has to have a special holiday, and I’m here to tell you all about it.
Trevor Walton: Good morning, thank you for letting me interview you. My first question is what holidays do you celebrate, and what is your tradition for them?
Mr. Secrease: I celebrate Martin Luther King Jr day, Christmas, Thanksgiving. I spend it with my brother and I used to spend it with my mother before she was gone. I also celebrate Veterans day, and Valentines day, Halloween, and Easter. Christmas is the day we celebrate the Lord’s birthday.
Trevor Walton: What are you going to do over break and why?
Mr. Secrease: Spend time with my granddaughters and get lots of rest. I always have a lot of energy each day. And, making the people at OSA safe.
Trevor Walton: This is not a holiday question, but how long have you been working at OSA? Were you nervous at first?
Mr. Secrease: I was not nervous. Officially, I’ve been at OSA for 11 years. But, unofficially it will be 15 years. And, the four year difference was when I took time off when my daughter passed.
Trevor Walton: Who do you celebrate the holidays with and why do you like to spend it with them?
Mr. Secrease: I celebrate the holiday with family, and why is because I was always with my family since I was born. That was the way I was raised. There is no other way on the holidays but spending time with family.
Trevor Walton: What is your favorite memory you have of the holidays and why is it your favorite?
Mr. Secrease: When I woke up in the morning and I had on a Oakland Raiders uniform when I was a little kid. Me and my brother walked in the livingroom and we found four Oakland Raiders football jerseys with pads. I get a lot of stuff for christmas every year. And, I was into football. And, I was very happy when santa gave me my Christmas wish.
Trevor Walton: What is special about OSA and why?
Mr. Secrease: It’s how they combine arts and academics. We give it to you to succeed in society and give you arts.
Trevor Walton: What middle or high school did you go to and how is it the same or different to OSA?
Mr. Secrease: I went to Claremont Middle School and Oakland Tech High School. Back then, we had arts but not longer than OSA. We also had sports.
Trevor Walton: Do you have a different meaning to the holidays?
Mr. Secrease: I don’t call it the holidays, I call it Christmas and the New Year. When I was younger, I thought it was about getting toys. But now, it is about the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Trevor Walton: My last question is what is your favorite thing about the holidays and why?
Mr. Secrease: My favorite thing about the holidays is the good food and spending time with family. My favorite food on the holidays is ham and dressing. My favorite thing about it was when I came up as a little kid with my brothers and sisters. It’s bringing up seeing my sister with her doll house and my mom cooking.
Mr. Secrease: Also, I’m more with the Lord for the holidays. I get excited for Christmas for the birthday of Jesus. And, on Easter is the resurrection of Jesus.
