Have you ever wondered what people think of the recent changes made to advisory at O.S.A.? Today, I will interview members of the O.S.A. community to gather their opinions on this topic.
The consensus from most students was that they didn’t like these changes. When I asked Lit Arts students Alice Stewart and Logan Bergmark for their opinion on the issue, they both said, “I don't like the advisory changes.”
But not all feedback on the advisory changes was negative. “I think the changes are helping me learn because I'm around people I'm more comfortable with, since I've known most people in Lit Arts for 2-3 years now, and I've known the teachers for 3,” says Literary Arts 8th grader Domino Howlet-Cragg.
Some of the reasons why people don’t like these amendments are that some people’s friends aren’t in their pathway. “Well I'm not sure why they made this change, I feel it’s kinda dumb since they already had all of the things they need on their computers right? And I barely have classes with my friends so I was hoping I would see my friends in Advisory,” says Literary Arts 7th grader Naomi Stallworth. What they mean is that the changes didn’t do anything useful because the computers were the main factor in advisory actually doing anything besides giving us free time.
“I think it's worse, it helps me with literally nothing,” says Literary Arts 7th grader Sayuri Espinoza, and many other people think the changes don’t do anything either “The changes are not doing anything, I just sit and read, just like I used to do because I never have any school work” says Literary arts 8th grader Logan Bergmark
Based on a Google form from the students in lit arts, most students prefer advisory the way it was instead of the new version, with 38.5% saying they don’t like the change and 30.8% of people saying they want it. And the old version is better, too.
