Ten (and growing) teams, 20 drivers, two per team, six rookies. Twenty four races across the world, means 24 chances to win. And, most importantly, two championship trophies for the best team and driver at the highly esteemed FIA (International Automobile Federation) Prize giving Gala. This is the 2025 F1 season, and it has all two of its OSA fans excited.
Drama amongst drivers, rookies, teasers for Cadillac as it plans to join the sport in 2026, and, most importantly or most controversially, Apple TV’s Original F1 the movie will be coming out in June this year.
Now you might be saying, “What’s up with the drivers?” or, “ Why is the movie controversial?” or even, “Caddillac’s joining F1?” but before anything else let’s talk about the most important thing of all.

What even is F1?
“Formula One, commonly abbreviated as F1, is the highest class of international racing,” says the F1 website. It consists of 10 teams and 20 drivers. There are 24 races or “rounds” per season all over the world. Drivers usually race on familiar tracks, one or two might change per year. Drivers compete for 1st place in what’s called a Grand Prix. First, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are put on the podium and sprayed with champagne.

Race weekends consist of FP1 and FP2. “FP” stands for “Final Practice.” These stretch across Fridays and Saturdays, but the Grand Prix almost always takes place on a Sunday. Qualifyings which determine the starting place of each racer usually happen on Saturdays.
What are qualifyings? You know how in racing games you see those little white sections that each car sits behind? Well, that’s why they have qualifyings: to determine your starting place. The car in front is called “Pole Position,” and over 40% of 1st place wins come from pole position.
At the end of the year at the FIA’s Prize Gala, one team is awarded a championship trophy as well as one driver.

Rookies
New people means new opportunities for these teams, as six new drivers join F1 this year. We’ve already seen Mercedes rookie (and fan favorite) Andrea “Kimi” Anotnelli excel in his first Grand Prix in Melbourne. The 18 year old took 4th place beating multiple world champions.
Another rookie that we had hope for was Red RedBull Racing’s 23 year old Liam Lawson, who raced alongside four- (hopefully going on five) time World Champion, Dutch driver, Max Verstappen.
Seventh grader at OSA,Clara Carrillo(Certified F1 gooner) has mixed feelings on Lawson “I don't like any of the Red Bull drivers because they kicked my favorite driver out,” she explains. Carrillo refers to the 35 year old four-time winner, Sergio Perez. While I don't think words can describe how much Carrillo loves Perez, I can say she has a very dedicated Pinterest board.
But, in the same breath of hating on Lawson, she expressed her wish for his season. When asked her favorite rookie she replies, “I hope he will honor Sergio Perez.”
Well, one can dream… just not now, as Lawson spun out into a wall on the 47th lap in Melbourne. Rough and most likely painful start of the 2025 season, as he is disqualified from the first Grand Prix of the year.
F1 has published articles calling the race “chaotic.” As we see crash after malfunction, after crash. Besides the top four, no one walked away satisfied. Maybe most of all Ferrari drivers, Lewis Hamiltion and Charles Leclerc.

What is going on with Ferrari?
From Mclaren, to Mercedes and now Ferrari, Hamiltion has really seen his share of the track. Now in 2025, he leaves Mercedes, the team he’s supported fully for years, to further his career in Ferrari.
Well, it’s one thing to lose miserably, another thing to blame everyone but yourself, Lewis. Hamilton tells Sky Sports, “The car was really, really hard to drive today. I’m just grateful I kept it out of the wall.” He calls out the stormy weather, the steering wheel, heck for a minute he blames the team calls because, “The guidance was missing.”
Can I feel bad for Hamilton when he ripped apart my favorite driving team? No, not really.
Carlos Sainz Jr, four years with Ferrari, four wins across four seasons, only to be replaced by 44 (Lewis Hamilton)! It’s not even that he’s one of my favorite drivers and now he’s forced to drive with Williams Racing, (a team that hasn’t won a championship title since the 1990s), it’s the fact Ferrari’s fan favorite teammates were torn apart: Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
F1’s most entertaining, funny, and strongest teammates were separated. Ferrari needs to lock their doors and hang their head in shame, you think Hamiltion is gonna be more fun to watch?!
“They were besties. I mean, the two went to the Gladiator 2 premiere together,” Carrillo states. “Charlos (The racers' fandom name) forever, I am a child of divorce.” Adding onto this statement in Mr. Amous’ 1st period math Carillo states, “I don’t think Hamilton is a good fit (for Ferrari) he does not look good in red, but I love him in Mercedes.” Her statement pretty clearly sums up how split all of our opinions are on Hamilton.

Cinema of F1 Apple Tv’s F1 Is set to release on June 27th. Starring American multi- award winning actor, Brad Pitt (your mom probably watches him) who plays a retired F1 driver by the name of Sonny Hayes. His co-star Damson Idris plays a rookie racing for a fictional team, APXGP. It is important to note that nothing in the movie is real or based on real events.
Three months away, and online commentators are already foaming at the mouth to criticize, calling the film “a disaster when it comes to sport accuracy” just from the trailer.
You think the guy who played Metro man from Megamind is a professional F1 driver?
I’m sorry to pop your Axe body spray bubble, But I don’t really care what role he’s portraying, LET ME HAVE THIS MOVIE.
The film has been reported to cost over 300 million. And for the “sport accuracy,” you obviously can’t read as F1 has published multiple articles on the truly amazing lengths the team went to film and make things seem more authentic.

Head director Joseph Kosinsk explains, “We actually bought six F2 cars, real F2 race cars and worked with Mercedes AMG, the Formula 1 team and their engineers to build real race cars that could carry our camera equipment, recorders and transmitters for making this film.
Every time you see Brad or Damson driving this movie, they're driving on their own in one of these real race cars on a real F1 track. So that's kind of how we approached the making of this film.”
Now here’s where my defensiveness stops and I join the army neck-bearded haters. This is a small spoiler but it has been confirmed that Sonny, the main character, will have a romantic relationship… with the racing team's technical boss. I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this,
I don’t know who thought there had to be a love interest who was working for the team, but this is such a FanFic type storyline. I really wanna know which writer looked over their daughter’s shoulder at her Kindle, saw this story line and thought, “I gotta tell boss about this.”
We BARELY have women representation in F1! The last woman to race in F1 was in 1992, there have been FIVE women in the entire history of racing in F1! I mean there are so many talented women in F2, Formula Academy (thank the heavens for Suzie Wolff, she runs that place like a marathon) is fully built for young women in racing!
But they are just sitting in lower levels because companies don’t want to sponsor them. I think the problem lies in the fact most likely she could be used as a tool in Sonny’s Life, it also lies in how cliche this idea is.
Carrilo comments on the romantic subplot as , “strange” and “unnecessary”, but still holds out hope for the film. “Besides that, I think it looks cool because I love F1 and movies and Drive To Survive was really good so hopefully this will be good, too.”
I mean, I don’t think the idea of having a female engineer in the movie is bad, good actually, nice representation. It’s all about how she’ll be portrayed in comparison to Sonny. I’m hopeful for her to have her own career and part in the movie..

Cadillac’s joining of F1
“We don’t just want to turn up and race, we want to be as competitive as we possibly can be,” says Team Principal Graeme Lowdon of the American company, Cadillac. At the end of the 2024 season, F1 announced that Caddilac would be joining F1 in 2026 as F1’s 11th team.
Now here’s the biggest question that F1 fans have: who’s gonna be driving for them?
Rumors have flooded over F1’s fanbase about current drivers who have no seat this year, possibly switching to Cadillac.
One of them being Finnish Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas.
“Valtteri Bottas may be warming the bench this year at Mercedes, but he’s got no interest in staying there for long and is instead laser-focused on finding a pathway back to a race seat,” says F1’s website. Well, why Bottas? The 35 year old has 247 races of experience and a very dedicated fan base which is good if Cadillac wants to hit the ground running.
The Finn also seems to be the only one who has talked to Lowdon about the move, both parties seem excited about this possible change. Bottas has been described as “hungry” to get off the bench, and further his career in a fresh start.
Another possible candidate for Cadillac is RedBull Racing’s fan favorite, Sergio Perez. Perez could be looking at a seat next year. It’s not very likely though after Lawson's mess ups in the past two races Red Bull might be begging for Perez back.

Whether the movie flops or Max wins ANOTHER DAMN SEASON, or Charles Leclerc doesn’t win a single race, 2025 F1 will definitely be interesting. And all two of its OSA fans will be rabid to see it.
