What's better than a fun and festive time spent with family and friends? Check out some local favorite activities during the holiday season, such as Glowfari, Union Square ice skating, and last but not least, the Christmas tree lighting.
Cammila Gayten, a 7th-grade Fashion student, recommends the Safeway ice skating located in San Francisco, Union Square. “What makes ice skating so special to me and my family is how jolly everybody is and how amazingly it’s decorated. It feels like a movie,” Gayten says. She has been going yearly with her family since she was 6 years old. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for kids 8 and under. It is open from 7 am to 12 am.
Ziah Smith, an 8th-grade Media Arts student, says she highly recommends the Oakland Zoo GlowFair. “What makes it special to me is all the memories I’ve been collecting there since I was only 3.” She has been going for seven years straight, collecting unforgettable memories. The dates are: November 20th-27th, 29th-30th; December 1st-23st, 26th-31st and January 1st-5th, 8th-12th, 15th-19th, 22nd-26th, 2025. All ages are welcome, and the event is held from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
Gabriella Luevano, an 8th-grade Fashion design student, says that the tree lighting at Pier 39 is her favorite holiday tradition. “The first time I ever went was when I was 3,” says Luevano. “My favorite memory from the tree lighting is probably the countdown from when I was around 3 because I had never seen it before. What makes it so special is seeing everyone cheer when the tree lights up.” You can see it on Tuesday, November 26th, at Pier 39 in San Francisco.
Kaliyah Smith, an 8th-grade Literary Arts student, suggests going to the Dickens Fair. “It's special to me because it's a place to spend time with my family, which I don’t have the opportunity to do a lot because most of my family is out of state.” Smith has been going for six years straight, and says that “a lot of my favorite memories with my cousins are there.” The Dickens Fair is located in Daly City. The Dickens Fair offers family fun, theater, nightlife, art, jewelry, and lots of family-friendly activities. Ticket prices are $5-12 for children, $25 for ages 13 and up, and all children under 5 enter for free! You can attend from November 23rd to December 22nd.
