"2024 is almost over, lets look at some of the top 5 horror movies" -- sayori Espinoza, 6th grade
Tis’ almost the end of the year—Christmas is coming up and soon after is New Year’s. Now you may be asking, “So… is this a Christmas article?” Well quite the opposite actually. See I, Sayori Espinoza, am not like other girls, so instead of your regular end-of-the-year movie reviews, let's rank the best horror movies of 2024! (Content Warning: These movies may include a lot of gore, language, and content not meant for younger people. Please check with your parents if you want to watch the movies listed below.)

Terrifier 3
Terrifier 3, the movie that had people jumping out of their socks and making every person squeamish, has finally arrived! Featuring our most infamous Art the Clown, this movie is not for the faint of heart and can make you feel the suspense. The gore, effects, and plot are all great, with the blood being very realistic and the effects amazingly done. It would have been in the top 3 if not for the ending. The ending felt rushed, so Terrifier 3 is at the end of the list. Nonetheless, if you truly love horror you should give it a watch.

The Substance
The Substance has been making charts when it comes to recommendations in articles. After taking a watch I must say, it’s not all that. The movie follows an actor who wants her job back after being fired because of her old age. She ends up buying something on the black market to make her young, but this ends up having scary side effects. The movie in itself was okay, however I feel like it lacked the horror aspect and wasn’t as scary as it could have been. While this may be true for me, it was still a good watch and is worth giving it a shot—especially if you enjoy shocks.

Stopmotion
Stopmotion is a psychological horror movie. It’s about a stop-motion animator, Ella, who crosses paths with a little girl after Ella escapes her toxic mother. Stuck for ideas on her next film, the little girl decides to tell the animator a story about a child who is being followed by a creature called “The Ash Man.” The little girl insists that Ella’s designs be made out of different materials. As they continue to interact, their fates are sewn together. This movie leaves you with suspense waiting for what's next to come, the eerie feelings leaving you with chills. Truly an amazing film. Though it was made in late 2023 I feel like it’s a good mention, so try it out!

Speak No Evil
Speak No Evil is a movie about a family being invited out to a cabin for vacation by another family. During their stay, strange things start to happen. Soon what was supposed to be a fun vacation turns into something more sinister and evil. The movie is truly psychological horror, and personally, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It isn’t as well liked as other movies but I feel like it’s WAY better than a lot made this year.

Milk and Serial
Milk and Serial, a self-produced film uploaded to YouTube by comedian and filmmaker Curry Barker, was truly outstanding. It cost only $800 in film production. The film follows YouTube pranksters who find themselves in a pickle as they celebrate Milk’s (a main character) birthday party. Spiraling into deep horror, with some of the scariest jumpscares and props even with their budget of $800. I must say, comedians make some of the BEST horror films.
All in all, these were just some of the movies that stuck out to me. There are so many varieties of horror movies that I could have mentioned but these were some of MY favorites.
Feel free to check them out and enjoy them! Happy holidays!
