"Sabrina Carpenter is a world-known American singer from Quakertown, Pennsylvania, with 85.2M listeners on Spotify. She started off as a 10 year-old Youtuber posting videos of her singing in 2009."--Violet REgilio, 6th grade
Carpenter has always loved singing and that really shows if you have followed her singing journey from 2009 to 2024.
In her Youtube days, she covered songs by famous singers such as Adele, Meghan Trainor, Christina Aguilera, and Taylor Swift. Her father built a recording studio for her to keep recording her singing. She sang solos throughout 2009 before her acting career started.
In 2009, Carpenter joined the Miley Cyrus singing competition. She had backup dancers and a whole set and she was very well prepared in the end she won third place. Then, according to The Vogue, in 2011 when Carpenter was 11 years old, she got a part in NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode, playing a young victim of abuse. In 2013, she got a part in a show Girl Meets World as Maya Hart who plays as main character Riley’s best friend. Then, in 2014, she made a record deal with Disney music group’s. She started being more known for singing and started making official music videos on Youtube, too.
Fast forward to 2020, when the Olivia Rodrigo drama started to happen. According to The Blaze, Rodrigo and Joshua Basset had broken up and Carpenter went on a date with him, which led Rodrigo to make the song “Driver's License,” with lyrics about Carpenter. Such as: “And you're probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt, she’s so much older than me. She’s everything I’m insecure about.”
Carpenter responded with the song “Skin,” where she sang “Maybe you didn't mean it, maybe blond was the only rhyme.” This song addressed the matter of her dating Basset and Rodrigo being jealous. In 2021 Basset and Carpenter split and in 2023 Carpenter brought it up and said “I was heartbroken two years ago. I was in a really, really different mental place.”
But it wasn’t till 2024 that Carpenter released her first big song, “Espresso.” With the release of this single, she started to become way more known and very popular. She now is a famous singer songwriter with her new album Short ‘n’ Sweet hitting it big at number 1 on Billboard 200!
“When it comes to Sabrina Carpenter's music, I usually either love it or hate it… Short n’ Sweet is a no-skip album, I am not using that title lightly,” wrote Marissa Rosa for The Daily Tar Heel.
“The success of Short n’ Sweet shouldn’t have been surprising, given the popularity of the album’s two singles, ‘Espresso’ and ‘Please Please Please,’ continued Rosa. “These two songs were indicators of the album's strong points: wit, humor and sonic variety.”
And with that Carpenter can be appreciated for everything she has done to become what she is now. She is even coming to the Chase center in San Francisco on November 9th at 7:00 PM. She is going on the Short ‘n’ Sweet tour. Don’t miss it!
