Trigger Warning: This article involves topics of sexual assault (SA) and CSAM (child sexual abuse material).
Melanie Martinez is a singer and songwriter who rose to fame in 2016, and has recently been accused of depicting CSAM in her “CryBaby” coloring book. Due to Timothy Heller’s statement about her alleged sexual assault people on TikTok are taking it seriously.
Timothy’s Statement
Let's take a look at Timothy Heller’s statement, which has resurfaced on TikTok.
Heller, a small artist, posted a TikTok video on July 19th, 2024, re-accusing Melanie Martinez of SA. “During the ‘me too’ movement I chose to speak out against a former friend who SA’ed me,” Heller says in her post. “I believed that as long as I told the truth everything would turn out alright,” she continues, “After my initial statement, after describing in detail what happened my abuser issued a response.”
The response Heller is referring to is a tweet that Martinez posted on December 5th, 2017. When Martinez says, “I am horrified and saddened by the statement and story told tonight by Timothy Heller,” I quote the entirety of it, but Martinez explains that: “She never said no to what we chose to do together.”
Heller says in her post that she said no to Martinez multiple times, and only agreed to Martinez after she got tired of her constantly asking and finally just agreed to make her stop.
Heller explains that after everything that happened, Martinez’s fans ran her off the internet saying they ruined her career, doxxed her, leaked her and her family’s phone numbers, and even spread her adult content, mocking it. These fans also spread rumors that Heller had lied about her allegations X (formerly Twitter during that time period).
Due to these statements, Heller states that she went on an interview to talk about the situation at hand, in which they asked her multiple questions, including, “What day did it happen?” To which Heller went to her phone to look at a picture taken the day after it happened, however, her photo said it was taken on June 25th, fans took a deep dive into Martinez’s Instagram to show that Martinez was on a tour at the time going back home so they were nowhere near each other.

Heller explains in her video that her phone had replicas of the photo and she doesn’t know why. Now you might be wondering, “Why would the date of this matter? Martinez confirmed that something happened,” well that’s something people fail to look at. Martinez would go on to change her statement saying, “Nothing happened between me and Heller” after saying something in fact, did. Martinez’s fans and people outside of the equation, are still split on whether they should trust Heller, or their favorite artist.
What is the Crybaby Coloring Book, and what are People Saying About it?
The “Crybaby” coloring book was a coloring book released as merch for Martinez’s “CryBaby” deluxe album.in 2016. Each picture in the book was supposed to represent a song from that album, the pictures each telling a story that leads to the other just like the album. So why the controversy?
Well, according to people on social media, two, maybe three pictures in the crybaby coloring book show CSAM. The pages they're talking about are the “Soap” page, “Tag you’re it,” and possibly the “Cake” page. The “soap” page is one of the main focuses for people, it depicts a little girl, “Crybaby” being gagged by a bar of soap in a tub with a very questionable look.
People on social media are concerned with how much it looks like the child is in danger.
User @sadboygumart released a statement about the controversy, with the video going viral with over 7 million views. In the video, after taking a look at the coloring book, he would go on to say, “I don’t think that all of them are bad, but there are at least two, possibly three, that are just really f******g weird.” He would, of course, be talking about the pages previously mentioned, he continues saying, “And as an artist, we know what the f**k we are doing. Like if I had to depict a child in certain situations there is a very safe way to do that.”
“I would go out of my way to do this in a way that could not ever be mistaken for CSAM. That's the issue, is that that care wasn't taken here. Obviously, the fact that there could even be a conversation that anything in here relates to CSAM is a problem in itself. Even if that's not the intention, that is a problem.”
User @daniellesadvocacy on TikTok says in the viral video addressing the book, “There's only one kind of group of people that would be interested in coloring pictures,” Danielle continues, “depicting children having objects shoved into their mouth or taking a bubble bath, and looking uncomfortable and scared at the same time. And this is just further proof that even women, even women, can be predators.”
Fans of Martinez try to defend it.“The art has meaning, look at the lyrics to the songs and you’ll see, it’s not weird,” posted a fan of Martinez’, who goes by the user @portalsbabytm. They also uploaded a video on TikTok showing pages of the coloring book trying to defend Martinez.
Now, social media users are split, with some saying it’s CSAM and others saying they are looking too far into it. Martinez hasn’t responded to any drama or allegations so far, and people don’t know if she ever will.
