"I have created a list of the best holiday movies to watch and get you in the holiday spirit." -- Charlotte Mills, 6th grade
People love holiday movies. When you watch a holiday movie, you feel like the holiday season has officially started. But of course, before watching a holiday movie, you have to know which one to watch. To help you do that, I have created a list of the best holiday movies to watch and get you in the holiday spirit.
10. It’s a Wonderful Life
In this movie, we meet a man named George Bailey. He always thinks of others before thinking of himself. As the angels discuss him, we see his life in a flashback. He undergoes a lot of hardships in the movie, but eventually, he learns the true meaning of Christmas. If you like old classic Christmas movies, this just might be the one for you!
9. The Christmas Chronicles
This movie puts a modern twist on the classic holiday story of saving Christmas. Two siblings accidentally ruin Christmas by crashing Santa Claus’s sleigh! From there, they embark on a journey that will bring them closer together and change their lives forever. This movie is all about family, and coming together over the holidays.
8. A Charlie Brown Christmas
This classic movie follows the adventures of Charlie Brown and his friends. It tells how Charlie Brown doesn't know what the point of Christmas is. It shows his problems, like figuring out which Christmas tree to get, and what he does to solve them, all while having a very merry Christmas indeed.
7. The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Muppet Christmas Carol is an amazing movie for everyone in the family. It’s the classic story of Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, except Muppet-ified! In the movie, Charles Dickens the Muppet and Rizzo the Rat follow a sour man named Scrooge and explore his journey with the spirits as they attempt to make Scrooge a better man. If you like silly, crazy movies with a classic storyline, this is a good movie for you.
6. A Christmas Story
This hilarious, family-friendly movie shows us the plight of Ralphie Parker, as he attempts to convince his family and friends that a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun is a great Christmas gift. Along the way he deals with fights at school and family drama! If you want to laugh over the holidays, this is the movie for you.
5.The Nightmare Before Christmas
In this movie, a pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, lives (or, you could say, dies) in the land of Halloween, but after seeing the land of Christmas, he decides he wants to be part of that holiday instead. There are lots of twists and turns in this movie as the pumpkin king tries to conquer Christmas. Some argue that this is a Halloween movie, but I think it could be both.
4. The Polar Express
This is a good movie for the younger kids in the family. This classic holiday movie is about a young boy who goes on a journey on the Polar Express, a magical train designed to bring children to Santa Claus and reinforce their belief in Christmas.
3. Elf
This hilarious and funny movie is about an elf named Buddy who has always felt out of place in the North Pole. When he finds out that he is a human, not an elf, he travels to New York to find his biological father. In New York, Buddy must blend in and learn to be a human.
2. Home Alone
This movie tells the story of young Kevin McCallister, after his family forgets him at home and goes on vacation. Kevin realizes that two robbers are stalking his house, and it's up to him to save it.
1. The Grinch (2000 version)
The Grinch is a wonderful movie about an unwanted, hateful creature that lives a lonely life high up above a merry town where everyone loves Christmas. The Grinch, however, hates Christmas and wants to take it away for good. As the Grinch embarks to do just that, however, he realizes he might just have more friends here than he thought.
So whether you’re looking to laugh with your family over the holidays or just watch a couple holiday movies by yourself, these holiday movies will get you into the spirit of the season!
